I opted for an optional blacktie dress code, which fit the overall vision I had for the wedding perfectly. So, the last weekend I had thought I would get engaged was a no-go.
Although we had announced it was a blacktie event, I said let’s just try going to suitsupply and see if maybe a color tux would help. We tried on a blue suit, and that didn’t work, but then he tried on their black tux, and it clicked! The surprise was when you cut into the cake for a rainbow of color!

The flowers were predominantly white with lots of green foliage; invitations and wedding breakfast were navy, white, and gold; bridesmaids’ dresses were emerald green, and groomsmen’s suits were midnight blue. The grandeur of St Giles House provides the perfect setting to host this type of wedding.
It was important to me that our wedding be captured by the best photographer. Liz Banfield had been number one on my list since before I was even engaged. I wore the rings I wear daily (one of which is a script ring of my maiden name) and diamond studs that my aunt had made from my grandmother’s engagement ring.
Guests dressed in blacktie and gowns in gold, silver and other metallic shades to keep the aesthetic cohesive. Engaged in New York City at the fountain where NY152 and Shopgirl finally embrace in the 1998 romcom movie, their wedding inspiration would express that same, fairytale feeling. God smiled.

We wanted the aesthetic of the wedding to reflect the landscape and personality of Sea Island, as well as our own, so it was lots of bright color and cheeriness! Although we knew we wanted it to be a formal black-tie event, we still wanted it to be upbeat, bright, and not all too serious to reflect our personalities.
